What They Say
SmallHD launched its biggest brightest OLED monitor. It has 10 bit colour and up to 550 cd/m² of output. The firm said that this means a dynamic range of 12.3 stops. The UltraHD monitor is said to support HDR and has an aluminium chassis and weighs 14lbs (6.35kg). There are a number of power and mounting options and it includes 4x 12G-SDI inputs/outputs, 1x HDMI 2.0 in/out, 1x 4-pin XLR power input, an SD card slot and 2x 2-pin locking power outputs to power external devices, such as Teradek Bolt 4K products. There are a number of tools including Color Pipe HDR color-rendering, Waveform, Vectorscope, Monitor Calibration Wizard and more.
Colour coverage is 110% of DCI-P3/135% of Rec. 709 and the monitor costs around $12k.
What We Think
I’m assuming that this is a JOLED OLED panel as used by LG as well. With a peak output of 550 cd/m² , the monitor couldn’t be used for grading of HDR content, but could be a useful on-set and location monitor, at least inside. (BR)
