Sky Announces Wider European Rollout of Sky Q

Digital TV Europe has reported that Sky’s CEO Jeremy Darroch has unveiled plans to launch Sky Q in Italy before Christmas, with releases in Germany and Austria to follow in the first half of 2018.

Speaking during the company’s fiscal first-quarter earnings announcement, Darroch also revealed that Sky Q has grown by 23% quarter-on-quarter in the UK.

Sky Q launched in the UK and Ireland in early 2016, enabling Sky customers to access Ultra HD content. A UHD-capable Sky box, named Sky+ Pro in Germany and Austria and MySky in Italy, has been available in those countries since last autumn, but none currently have access to the core Sky Q service.

Darroch also announced a November UK release for the Sky Soundbox, a high-end, all-in-one speaker designed in collaboration with Devialet, that Sky claims “surpasses many of the best home cinema systems available today” and that will support Dolby Atmos.
