Samsung US Ends Small Digital Signage

Samsung US announced that it would stop selling its 10.1″ and 21.5″ small signage LCDs as well as the 22″ square LCD that it announced for architectural use several years ago.

One of the features that was missed on the products, as they stand, is that they didn’t have LEDs allowing quick checking of whether the room was occupied from a distance – a feature that has become important on room-booking displays.

Analyst Comment

We confirmed with Samsung at the Midwich event this week that the withdrawal from the market. In Q2, the company sold just under 15K of the small signage displays, globally, so it could leave room for someone to take advantage. UK staff were particularly disappointed about the decision as they have a client that wanted to buy 10K units next year – not a strategic number, but still useful business. (BR)
