Portugal’s National Communications Authority has said that the country’s DTT frequency change — taking place all over Europe over the next two years, to free up the currently occupied 700MHz frequency band for 5G services — will commence during the fourth quarter of 2019 and conclude by the end of June 2020.
The regulator also confirmed that current transmission technology would be retained, so the country’s TV viewers won’t need to purchase any additional hardware. A period of simulcasting won’t be required and the launch of an additional two free-to-air DTT channels will also go ahead as planned.
