Planar was clearly positioning itself at the show as the specialist in UltraHD and told us that all the displays that it was showing were UltraHD resolution (although this didn’t apply to the transparent OLED).
First, we looked at the 55″ transparent OLED panel that we previewed on our front page a couple of weeks ago. Planar told us that it plans to release a finished monitor in 2016. For more information on the panel, see our article on Samsung Display (Samsung Display Clarifies Transparent OLEDs). Other details were sparse.
At the top of the range, Planar had a 98″ UltraHD monitor with 3D and touch options. The monitor supports 60P operation and it includes four DisplayPort inputs and four HDMI inputs so that the display can be treated as a video wall where an existing controller solution for content can be used. The input configuration can be controlled using a new iOS application, which the company claims is the first iOS application to allow control of an UltraHD display. There will be an Android version of the app around June time.
The depth of the display is a maximum of 10cm and the monitor has no fans.
There was also a new UR8450-T 84″ UltraHD display and two new OPS modules, supporting 3G-SDI and also HDBaseT.
