Pay TV Subscribers in Spain Up in 2017

Pay TV subscribers in Spain rose by 8.6% in 2017, up to 6.6 million. According to CNMC, as reported by Advanced Television, IPTV led the charge, gaining 569,000 subscribers, up to 4 million total, while DTH dropped 109,000 subscribers.

This growth was reportedly driven by telco bundles containing IPTV services, which saw 706,000 new customers in 2017, up to 11.7 million in total. Quintuple-play packages are now in 5.5 million homes, up by 707,000 last year.

Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) also grew by 2 million lines in 2017, with 45.7% of all broadband lines FTTH at the end of the year, with 6.6 million subscribers, up 1.8 million on the previous year. Additionally, as of December 2017, 37 million homes were capable of receiving FTTH.
