What They Say
Panasonic has updated its flagship OLED TV for 2021. The panel remains the same, in 55″ and 65″ variants, but the JZ2000 now has features from HDMI2.1, support for HDR10+ Adaptive (it already had Dolby Vision IQ) and has a new processor, the HCX Pro AI processor. For game players there is a low latency mode, said to be 14.4ms and it has 120Hz and VRR support.
There are new side-firing speakers to widen the sound stage and has been optimised by engineers from Technics, the high end Panasonic audio brand.
Other sets for 2021 will be announced in the next couple of months.
What We Think
Panasonic had some uniqueness with the predecessor sets as it had the cooling panel attached to the OLED to allow higher brightness, but LG Display has now said that it will offer something similar. The fact that the panel hasn’t improved is potentially the Achilles heel for OLED. LCD keeps getting better and better, whereas OLED is basically stuck and there will be less and less of a chance of keeping it as the premium leader. LG Display really, really needs a better blue material to allow a boost in performance. (BR)
