The Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga concert, ‘Cheek to Cheek LIVE!’, which was recorded in UltraHD (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 38), is now available for streaming worldwide. LG and Amazon collaborated on the production; the concert is available on UltraHD TVs to Amazon Video customers.
The Wuaki.tv streaming service will begin to offer UltraHD streaming on the 1st December. The service will be launched in Germany and France, although there are plans to bring it to Wuaki’s other markets (Spain and the UK) in the near future.
Eutelsat expects that there will be 12 UltraHD channels operating worldwide by 2016, on various satellites. Hans-Pieter Schmitt of Eutelsat Germany said, “The development [of UltraHD channels] goes faster than with HD; 4k will also come on DTT and IPTV”.
Amazon is preparing to add UltraHD content to its Prime Instant Video service. Prime subscribers will be able to receive the service at no extra cost.
Cable and satellite TV services in the USA suffered significant subscriber losses in Q3 – but these were offset by telco provider gains. LCD TV OEM Amtran will produce less than 10% of Vizio’s TVs going forward, say sources in Asia. Vizio has instead shifted its business to Foxconn, TPV and Wistron, while Amtran is focusing on supplying JVC and Sharp.
