Eutelsat reported net profit for the year of €355.2 million ($389.4 million), up 17% from €303.2 million ($332.4 million) a year earlier, on revenue which rose 9.5% to €1.48 billion ($1.6 billion) from €1.35 billion ($1.5 billion). The company said that it had seen significant commercial success with growth in all areas.
In its quarterly financials, Philips mentioned a project that it had undertaken in Q2 with Carrefour in Lille, France. China’s certification agency, TENAA, has seen a new Windows tablet called the Ramos Q7. The product has a 7″ display (1280 x 720), a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.
Flex (formerly Flextronics) saw Q1 net profits of $111 million, down from profit in the same period last time of $174 million, on revenue which fell to $5.56 billion from $6.64 billion. The company said that it was operating with “discipline” to maintain strong cashflow.
LG Electronics recorded Q2 net profits of KRW226.4 billion ($193.1 million), down from profits of KRW411.8 billion ($351.2 million) last time, on turnover which fell to KRW13.9 trillion ($11.9 billion) from KRW15.1 trillion ($12.8 billion). Nintendo posted Q1 net profits of ¥8.3 billion ($66.4 million), compared with losses in the same period last year of ¥9.9 billion ($79.5 million), on revenue which rose 21% to ¥90.2 billion ($723.2 million) from ¥74.7 billion (598.7 million). The company attributed the improvement to increased game sales coupled with foreign exchange gains.
Chipmaker, United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), recorded its highest quarterly net profit for two years of TWD4.6 billion ($145.7 million), up from TWD3.5 billion ($110.3 million) in the same quarter last year, on revenue which increased to TWD38.0 billion ($1.2 billion) from TWD35.9 billion ($1.1 billion).
