Sources in Asia say that Toshiba is to sell its notebook factory in Hangzhou (eastern China). The company has apparently inquired about interest from several Taiwanese ODMs. These firms are unlikely to be interested solely in the factory, but may purchase it if Toshiba bundles it with other businesses, such as IoT and industrial computing.
Intel reported Q1 2016 net profit of $2.0 billion, up 3% YoY. Turnover was $13.7 billion, up 7% YoY from $12.8 billion. Each business segment with the exception of non-volatile memory was up YoY, led by Internet of Things Group revenue, which was up 22% YoY.
Intel is continuing its move away from a focus on the struggling PC market to concentrate on the internet of things and wearables – but, in the process, has announced that it is cutting 12,000 employees.
