Owlchemy Labs, a developer of AR and VR software, has created a custom shader and plug-in that it has created to allow developers to use depth data in the Unity graphics engine. Since it created the plug-in it has added features to:
- Allow virtual lighting objects to illuminate and cast shadows on real objects in the image.
- Support transparency, which will allow effects such as smoke, rain, or looking through a window
- Limited green screens – which set bounds around a green screen, so that just a small area can be used
There’s an application form for developers that want to use the technology online.
