No Consensus on OLED TV Panels

According to a Korean news source, there are differing views between Chinese and Korean panel manufacturers about the benefits of OLED over LCD panels for TVs. ZDNet Korea quotes Hisense’s chairman, Zhou Houjian, as saying that OLED TV panels will not have a competitive edge in the market over the next five years, because of low yields and high costs. Representatives from TCL believe that LCD panels have the advantage, as OLED is expected to suffer from colour loss after five years.

However, LG is focusing its investment efforts on OLED TV panel production and in the first half of 2015, the Korean company achieved sales of 15,000 OLED TVs. According to the report, other panel makers believe quantum dot and wide colour gamut 4k TVs will have a higher acceptance in the market.
