According to an article by Nikkei, the bulk order price for 32″ open-cell LCD panels dropped by 2% month-on-month, to around $65 per unit. The article quotes data from IHS Markit, who says the average selling price of 40-49″ screens dropped by 3-5% in 2017, while 55″ panel prices remained flat. Global shipments worldwide decreased 2.6% to 217 million units. In terms of individual countries, the biggest drop was seen in China—around 10%—while US sales dropped by 3%.
IHS Markit has also predicted a shortage of 32-50″ LCD displays as larger-sized displays become more popular and panel makers begin to shift their focus, as well as fierce competition from the OLED display market. With BOE opening its new 10.5G LCD factory this year (BOE to Start G10.5 Fab Early 2018), Yoshio Tamura, president of Asian operations for Display Supply Chain Consultants predicts a price drop for 65″ panels.
