New Phone Boxes for the UK

Amscreen has now produced more than 250 new design phone boxes for deployment in the UK for Clear Channel New World Payphones business using British-based engineering and design talents. Clear Channel has also partnered with international environmental charity, Trees for Cities, and is planting a tree in an urban area for every upgraded phone box.

The New World Payphones kiosks have been developed and engineered in a 20,000 sq. ft (1,850 m²) factory in Bolton, which was built solely for the production of digital signage equipment for the OOH and smart city displays sector. The kiosks incorporate a standard telephone as well as high speed public WiFi and interactive maps for local shoppers and tourists as well as Amscreen’s Remote Device Monitoring platform which delivers connected advertising displays.

Amscreen has a network of 15,000 screens and more than 20 years’ experience in providing screen solutions. The current partner portfolio includes BP, Shell, Tesco and Costa Coffee as well as Clear Channel. Amscreen has also shipped more than 1600 freestanding and bus shelter units for Clear Channel’s national digital Adshel estate.

The iconic British red telephone box was obsoleted partly by the arrival of the smartphone, but also by the need to offer disabled access, which was not feasible in the traditional design. (BR)
