Nagra has revealed five top trends it expects to most impact the pay-TV industry in 2018, according to Advanced Television. The company believes that we are now in the ‘Post-OTT Era’ as the division between OTT and traditional TV disappears. This will only accelerate as pay TV operators exploit platforms such as Android TV. New user interfaces and experiences will help consumers to find content, although barriers remain.
Nagra believes that problems with piracy of Pay TV sports content (for example, via Kodi servers) will start to be beaten by service owners using end-to-end protection. The company also expects to seem more analytics and new business models for PayTV which will slow the increase in cord cutting.
