The next version of the Microsoft Hololens headset will have a special Deep Neural Network (DNN) chip according to a Microsoft blog. The current version has a Holographic Processing Unit, or HPU that processes data for the custom time-of-flight depth sensor, head-tracking cameras, the inertial measurement unit (IMU), and the infrared camera. The new DNN chip will be incorporated in the next version of the HPU, which was demonstrated in an ‘early version at a recent conference. The chip will be optimised for battery operation.
