Taiwan and blog sources are pointing to a design win for Mediatek’s Helio P30 chips with Oppo and Vivo, both Chinese smartphone brands on the rise. (see MWC 2017 Round-up for comments on the Helio X30, a high end version – the P30 is regarded as mid-range). The P30 is seen by specialists as a potential competitor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 and 660.
After a correction to inventory, Mediatek is expected to see a rise in production for May and June, although the firm has said that Q2 is unlikely to be a strong quarter.
