Mediaset and Sky italia are reported to be in negotiations about setting up a joint venture pay-TV company. According to Italian sources, Sky Italia would take the majority stake in the JV, which is certain to attract the attention of Italy’s Anti-trust Authority. The two companies’ combined pay-TV subscriber base is in excess of seven million households. Mediaset and Sky Italia are already under investigation over a possible rights cartel regarding last year’s sale of Serie A football rights.
