Marseille’s Cable Upscales to 4k

Upscaling HDMI cables, which contain chips to scale content from 1920 x 1080 to UltraHD, have been available for some time, but not widespread. We have previously reported on a $40 cable from Seiki, for instance, which used a chip from Marseille Networks (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 2).

Marseille has now produced its own ‘mCable’, which contains the mChip – a processor and circuit board, housed in a cable delivery system. As well as converting 1920 x 1080 to UltraHD, the product can convert legacy 640 x 480 content to 1920 x 1080. It is plug-and-play; no additional processing required.

The mCable is 4k Certified by Technicolor, and will be available at ‘nearly 100’ Best Buy locations in the USA later this month. It will cost $130 or $160, depending on length.

Marseille will show the mCable at CEDIA this month.
