LTPS Lasers to be Weak in 2019

In its quarterly results call, Coherent, which makes excimer lasers for LTPS display manufacture (and some other applications), said that there is no ‘OLED demand problem’ and the company knows of plans for more than 20 OLED fabs between now 2023. 2019 is expected to drop back from 2018, which is a peak year, with growth again in fiscal 2020. Most of the demand in 2019, like 2018, will be ‘non-Samsung’. Most of the fabs will make G6 substrates. The company also said that it expects utilization rates to go up and average sizes to continue to grow.
