Linear TV Still Popular in France

French research consultancy NPA Conseil has published a study entitled “Les Français et leur télévision” (The French and their television). When asked about their viewing habits, 56.6% said that they still watch mainly live programmes, while the rest said that they were watching less and less live, with 35.1% instead watching recorded or catch-up TV and 8.3% watching streamed video. Live TV was generally watched less by those under 25 years old.

On the whole, viewers said that they would opt for better programmes rather than more. Quality was also preferred in the technology, with HD and UHD welcomed as progress towards a bright future. Most cited social viewing experiences as positive, with films, news, TV series, comedy and sport the most popular categories.
