European PD Market is Flat in Q3

The Q3 market for public displays in Europe was basically flat from Q2, in line with typical seasonality but slightly better than expected as Germany saw a good quarter according to Meko’s DisplayCast service. Volume growth was 15.5% year on year.

NEC had a good quarter, while Samsung, although very dominant, was a little weaker than in Q2. Philips (MMD) continued its steady growth in share.

Although L55H hit new record volume sales, but remains behind L42H in volume terms. In value terms, L55H is well ahead.

UltraHD has seen a lot of hype in the TV market, but it remains a niche in public display and is less than 2% of the volume of the market, although more in value.

Looking at the regions, DACH (the German-speaking region), France and the Nordics were quite positive, but Russia, Eastern Europe (including Turkey) and MEA were weak because of continuing political and economic problems.
