LG Takes Press to Hollywood

LG hosted an event in Hollywood for a group of journalists from the ‘AV Enthusiast’ press and highlighted the features and quality of its OLED TVs. As well as a demonstration of calibration using the Portrait Displays/Spectracal software and some discussion of Dolby Atmos, LG called on staff from Technicolor and Netflix who explained how LG TVs are used to understand what viewers will see. Other features highlighted included 120Hz support, even for UltraHD content coming in from files played from USB or over HDMI 2.0a (although not at the same time as HDR)

LG’s premium TVs have support for HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and “Advanced HDR by Technicolor.” as well as HDR10 Pro and HLG Pro (which are LG technologies to tone map HDR10 and HLG content using dynamically generated scene by scene metadata). They also have Black Frame Insertion to improve motion performance.

The company highlighted that the new Alpha 9 video processor is used in most of the UltraHD OLEDs (C8, E8 and W8) and offer four-step noise reduction with double the effective banding reduction, an object-based depth enhancer, and an adaptive color enhancer. The B8 series (due later) will used the Alpha 7 used in the LCD models and 2017 UltraHD models.
