LG has confirmed pricing for a new 97″ UltraHD OLED TV that is due to launch in Europe in the second half of 2022 at around €25,000. The unit was trailed at CES in January. (New Display Technology QD-OLED Dazzled CES 2022)
What We Think
At 97″, 8K would make more sense than it does at smaller sizes and a 97″ 8K OLED could be really similar in pixel configuration to four UltraHD 48″ panels, although the driving period would be shorter which would complicate things. The high price and the lack of 8K suggests that yield remains a challenge for LGD. The lack of 8K is also slightly surprising given that the LG OLED88Z9P is an 8K 88″ set and the OLED77Z19LA is a 77″ that LG has been selling for a couple of years. The 88″ still seems to be available at around $19K in the US although it is on sale in the UK for £30K! The 77″ is available at Richer Sounds in the UK at £20K. (BR)
