Three new camcorders were shown by JVC Professional: 35mm, streaming and compact models. They are designed to accommodate various workflows and are able to shoot in DCI-4k.
The flagship is the GY-LS300 Super 35mm camcorder. It features a Super 35 CMOS sensor and a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount. The active area of the sensor is electronically adapted, using JVC’s Variable Scan Mapping technology, to provide native support of PL and EF mount lenses, among others. The camera is designed to have ‘almost limitless’ lens options’.
Next is the GY-HM200 – the streaming model. This is designed for corporate video and ENG applications, with a 1/2.3″ BSI CMOS chip and 12x zoom lens, with an optical image stabiliser. Imagery can be SD , Full HD (4:2:2 subsampling) or UltraHD. Both the LS300 and HM200 feature JVC’s HD streaming engine, with W-iFi and 4G connectivity.
Finally, the compact GY-HM170 has a rugged body and a variety of video profile settings. The camera records UltraHD using H.264, or can output it live via HDMI.
All three cameras feature a 3.5″ LCD display and 1.56MP colour viewfinder. They are shipping now, for $4,400 (LS300), $3,000 (HM200) and $2,2,00 (HM170).
