ITU Region-1 Reaches ASO Deadline

The ITU’s deadline for analogue switch-off (ASO) came and went on 17th June. By this time, the 119 countries in ITU Region 1 (EMEA and Central Asia) should have turned off their analogue TV signals and switched to digital broadcasting.

However, there are many countries that have not yet achieved the switch. For example, Georgia delayed ASO until 1st July; the Republic of Moldova began ASO on the ITU’s deadline day (expected to last for three years); and Ukraine is not set to begin the switch until March 2016 (ending December 2018).

Despite Ukraine’s late switch-off date, 57 analogue broadcast sites were switched off on 17th June, to avoid interference in neighbouring countries.
