Italian Broadcasters Ask for Changes

Four Italian broadcasts — Cairo Network, Mediaset, Prima TV and ReteCapri — have requested that the Lazio Regional Administrative Court annuls regulator AgCom’s DTT frequency plan, ahead of the switch-over to free up the 700MHz band for 5G services.

The broadcasters have asked for a solution that guarantees the same number of frequencies will be available for TV channels after the switch, either via the redistribution of frequencies used for local broadcasting or those that are currently unused.

The National Frequency Plan covers ten national DTT multiplexes and four local multiplexes in the UHF band, plus a regional multiplex for local and public service channels in the III VHF band. Back in June, when the plan was first approved, AgCom acknowledged “critical issues” concerning the allocation of frequencies to local broadcasters.
