What They Say
IFA Berlin said that just over 161,000 people attended the show over the five days and claimed that 2,500 journalists arrived from 100 countries. 80% of the exhibition space was taken up ‘despite lockdowns in China’
What We Think
I was not surprised that the number was a third down on 2019’s 245K. but it was up on a weak 2018 which saw just 151K. I still have my doubts about the long term viability of the event as a global high tech event although it could survive, for a while, as a German appliance and lifestyle event, I guess (Quo Vadis, IFA?) I’d be amazed if there had been 2,500 journalists – I’ve never seen the press centre so empty although, admittedly, I was otherwise occupied on the special press days.
The numbers are also a contrast with Gamsecom a few weeks ago in Cologne that saw 250K visitors. (BR)
