Apple has previously bought PrimeSense, the original developer of the technology behind the Microsoft Kinect and RealFace. The company also bought a company called Linx Computational Imaging that had technology to use multiple imaging sensors to create depth maps. (Looks Like 3D Depth Capture is a Hot Topic)
