Hitachi Pushes to 5,000 Lumens

Hitachi in the US has announced the CPWX5500, a new 3LCD (0.59″ panels) with 1280 x 800 resolution and producing 5,200 Ansi lumens with 10,000:1 contrast. The lens has a 1.6:1 manual zoom and the light source is a 300 watt lamp. with 4000/6000 hours life. The projector is rated for use with diagonals from 30″ to 300″.

There is a single 16W speaker and features include Dicom simulation. Inputs are HDMI/MHL and HDMI as well as VGA (with loop through). There is also a composite/S-video video input and Wi-fi is supported with an optional dongle, connected via USB.

The weight is 6.9 kg and the product has a three year warranty (6 months on lamp). Dimensions are 460 x 138 x 334mm. Pricing in the UK is £1,166 ‘on the street’. ($1,300 + tax)

Projector specialists tell us that, for most users, 3,000 Ansi lumens is enough for most applications, but the industry is pushing brightness up, so companies have to respond. This projector is just under 17 lumens per watt, which is quite efficient. The value of projectors is fantastic, these days. (BR)
