What They Say
OLED-Info reports that Futaba will move its PMOLED production process to RiTDisplay and the firms will collaborate on technology and the development and sale of displays for automotive applications.
Futaba believes that producing its displays at RiTDisplay will enable it to reduce production costs and be more competitive, especially as competition is increasing and material costs and energy costs are on the rise, the blog said.
What We Think
For many years, Futaba made Vacuum Flourescent Displays (VFDs) which were low cost but very reliable and often used in automotive and appliances. They were often called LCDs by those that didn’t appreciate the technology. However, the firm started to sell passive OLEDs as an alternative some ten years ago after it had bought the TDK display business. It decided to withdraw from VFDs in 2020 because of the demand for more colour, which was a challenge for VFDs. (BR)
