Funbox UHD Channel Goes Live

Sony Pictures International (SPI) has added an UltraHD application to the Amazon Fire TV and also made the UltraHD channel on the Eutelsat Hotbird satellite neighbourhood at 13º East fully active. The channel on satellite, under the name Funbox 4K/UHD is now being carried by operators in Portugal, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and also in Turkey and is switching from a demo loop, which was launched at Anga last year, to a full channel on 22nd October. The channel supports HDR and WCG. Details of the content on the channel can be downloaded.

Amazon Fire TV is currently available in the US, the UK, Germany, Austria and Japan.

Analyst Comment

We asked SPI to clarify its technical support for HDR. SPI is a member of the UHD Alliance, so we suspect that HDR10 will be the format as no mention is made of Dolby Vision. (BR)
