Adobe has formally advised that Adobe Flash will no longer be supported after the end of 2020 as open standards such as HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly are all now mature and adopted. The Flash player will not be distributed after that time. Adobe said that it will continue to contribute to the development of HTML5, and WebAssembly.

There has never been a Flash Player on Apple iOS devices and Adobe dropped support for Flash in mobile devices at the end of 2011, so this move will surprise nobody. Steve Jobs, famously, really disliked Flash and wrote an open letter to criticise the technology in April 2010. (BR)
