The European Broadcasting Union has commissioned the University of Applied Sciences of Wiesbaden, Germany to evaluate video compression technologies, in response to the growing interest in the Alliance for Open Media’s AV1 codec and the Joint Exploration Model (JEM), developed by ISO and ITU.
The EBU will pit AV1, JEM and current industry standard HEVC against one another, to help its members decide which codec best suits their needs. The results will be presented by Professor Matthias Narroschke at the EBU Production Technology Seminar in Geneva.
Apple recently joined Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix, among others, in the Alliance for Open Media. (Apple Joins Alliance for Open Media)
