US cable network Epix is preparing to launch its own standalone subscription video service later this year. The company’s executive VP and GM, Monty Sahran, broke the news during an interview with Variety earlier this week but remained tight-lipped on the details.
Epix provides apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV and Roku, amongst others. It hasn’t yet been confirmed which of these will receive Ultra HD support.
The announcement was made during a conversation regarding major forthcoming upgrades to the platform, which will see it begin to offer TV shows, movies and Epix originals like Get Shorty in Ultra HD resolution. Sahran also hinted at the possibility of HDR support in the future as well.
