Energy Saving Slips in Europe with New TVs

Advanced Television spoke to Markus Kick, a GfK specialist in Consumer Electronics who explained that the move to higher quality TVs is having a negative impact on the purchase of energy-saving TVs. He said that only a third of TVs sold in Europe meet the A+ rating (the third level of efficiency) with A++ sets ‘insignificant’.

In 2017, the Commission introduced an A+++ level but, clearly, there are not a lot of sets that can meet that level. Popular TVs in Europe at the high end, such as the LG OLEDs, have just A class ratings. We have reproduced below the kind of label that is mandatory for all TVs in retail outlets in the EU. That energy is not a hot (sorry!) topic is clear from the website of UK retailer, Currys, the market leader. The buying guide on the website doesn’t mention energy consumption at all, whereas for large appliances such as washing machines, this is a key buying parameter. (BR)
