EBU Continues to Hold 700MHz Concerns

The European Commission’s High Level Group has recommended that the EU restrict access to the sub-700MHz spectrum to digital TV until 2030. The move has been welcomed by the EBU. The report stated that the EU ‘should adopt a common position against the co-primary allocation of the core audiovisual band (470-694MHz) to the mobile service at WRC 2015’. However, the EBU is still concerned about group chairman Pascal Lamy’s recommendation that the 700MHz band (694-790MHz) be givien over to wireless broadband by 2020 (+/-2 years).
