Dutch Police Testing A/R

We’ve talked a lot about the use of augmented reality and New Scientist has reported that Dutch police are using the technology to solve crimes. A trial system is being used that streams video from body cameras on officers on site to specialists and experts elsewhere, who can then direct the officers. The system was developed by Twnkls, an A/R company in Rotterdam, the Netherlands which is using technology from the University of Delft. The group hopes to have a commercial product within six months.

“We’ve tried the system and it really adds a lot of value to many different areas of policing,” innovation adviser Nick Koeman from the National Police of the Netherlands told New Scientist. One of the secondary benefits is that fewer people need to enter the crime site, minimising contamination as well as saving time.

Although it might be thought that the system could be helpful during an arrest, but officers were distracted by having too much information.
