Cypress Enables HDMI over USB-C

Cypress Semi has claimed that Elka International is shipping the first USB Type-C HDMI Alt mode cable, based on the Cypress EZ-PD CCG3 chip to manage the connection. The chip includes an ARM Cortex-M0 processor, two 64kbyte flash memory banks, a crypto engine and analogue switching for non-USB signals, such as HDMI control, along with four serial communication blocks and a USB controller for USB Billboard functionality. The memory banks allow upgradable security and firmware updates (for a cable!)

HDMI ALT MODE OVER USB C

Cypress is reported to have demonstrated its solution for HDMI alt mode over USB-C, and Elka’s cable, at the HDMI Developers Conference in Shenzhen yesterday and at the HDMI Developers Conference in Taipei.
