Canon Projectors Used for Simulation and Planetarium

Canon announced the WUX500ST projector, which is a short throw LCOS-based unit that has 1920 x 1200 resolution and outputs 5,000 Ansi lumens. New Canon UST Projector has Dicom Version. Features include lens shifting of 75% vertically and 10% horizontally. The company claims very low levels of barrel and pincushion distortion.

The UST projector was shown in a shooting simulator designed for professional training and with a realistic feeling handgun. The company that develops the training even had an automatic weapon with realistic recoil.

We also looked at the 4K600STZ which was shown at ISE and ITEC recently.

Something we hadn’t seen before was a 15′ (4.5m) diameter planetarium dome using a single projector and a special fisheye converter. The system could support diameters up to 30′ (9m) and could also be used for dome simulators exploiting the marginal focus scheme that Canon has designed.
