A voluntary agreement has been finalised between Canadian pay-TV providers and STB makers to improve energy efficiency. The agreement has the backing of the federal and provincial governments and the aim is to cut annual CO2 emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes and reduce power consumption from 3.4 terawatt hours in 2016 to 2.7TWh by 2021. 90% of all new STBs bought from the start of 2017 should meet the new standards.
