BenQ SW320 Claims HDR for SW320 UHD Monitor

BenQ has announced a new addition to its range of colour calibrated monitors with the SW320, an UltraHD 31.5″ monitor based on an IPS panel and with support for 99% of AdobeRGB, 100% of sRGB and Rec. 709 and 87% of DCI-P3 colour gamuts. The brightness is 350 cd/m² and contrast is 1,000:1. The monitor can be used with an external calibrator and there is an internal 14 bit 3D LUT. Features include an ambient light sensor and it uses BenQ’s ‘puck’ to switch quickly between different modes. There is a GamutDuo mode that allows the viewing of different images in different colour spaces.

Mechanical features include 150mm of height adjustment and the monitor has DisplayPort and mini-DisplayPort connections and HDMI2.0 as well as a USB hub and an integrated card reader.

European pricing has been suggested at €1,600 in the channel, although it has been suggested that it will cost $1,200 in the US.

Analyst Comment

BenQ identifies this monitor as supporting HDR. We assume that this means that it can react to PQ metadata or HLG. It certainly doesn’t have enough brightness to genuinely master HDR content, which would typically done with 1,000 cd/m² of brightness. (BR)
