Barco has confirmed it is studying a possible relocation of the manufacturing activities of its Barco Fredrikstad AS location in Norway, while further building out its local R&D and business development activities. The Fredrikstad location was acquired by Barco in 2012 and was named the company’s Center of Excellence in single-chip DLP projection in 2015.
In order to strengthen its competitive position, Barco is now keen to streamline its activities and improve operational efficiency by relocating the Fredrikstad manufacturing activities and merging it with the larger projection factory at its new facility in Kortrijk, Belgium.
Analyst Comment
This facility was, of course, projectiondesign and that company was the acquisition that gave Barco its facilities in Norway. As we have reported, several times, some of those that had been at projectiondesign setup a new company at the end of 2016, Norxe (Norxe Shows Stunning LED Projector) that is starting to impress.
