At the show, Amino Communications showed its new UltraHD Android-based STB that is intended for operators (it’s not a retail product). Features include support for the 802.11ac Wi-fi protocol. Amino CTO Mark Evensen said: “We’re seeing increasing demand from operators for Android TV capabilities – either as a standalone service or as a complement to existing entertainment delivery strategies”. The box is very small and will be sampling in the second half of 2017. Amino believes it is the first to roll out a box with Android and UltraHD.
The company was also showing its K650e player which is designed for digital signage and for hospitality. The box can be used in hotels as a ‘set-back’ box and fits to the VESA mount points on a lot of TVs. It can also be powered over Ethernet, avoiding the need for power cables in some applications.
