According to Digitimes Research, LCD manufacturers in Taiwan (excluding Sharp) shipped 62.03 million panels of 9″ and above during the second quarter of 2018, a 5.5% growth quarter-on-quarter and 5.9% year-on-year. Analysts also found that Taiwan-based flat panel suppliers saw a 34.2% share of the global large-size LCD panel market in the second quarter.
Digitimes predicts that shipments of large-size LCD panels out of Taiwan will grow another 5.4% quarter-on-quarter during the third quarter of the year, thanks to a drop in panel prices compared to the same period in 2017. Shipments will then decline 1.2% in the fourth quarter of 2018, due to seasonal factors.
Analysts say that AU Optronics will see flat growth in the second half of the year, while Innolux will see significant growth. BOE will also see a 6.9% increase in its shipments of large-size tablet panels in the second half of the year, compared to the first. Panels for monitors and all-in-one PCs will continue to grow during the third quarter of 2018, while notebook panels will account for 47% of Taiwan’s global panel shipments in the second half of the year.
