Eizo Corporation has announced the Flexscan S1703-A, a 17″ 1280 x 1028 monitor for clients that still want to buy products in this ‘legacy’ format. The unit is the first upgrade since the S1703, which was released just over five years ago. The new version has an LED backlight and is covered by a five year warranty. It has VGA and DVI-D inputs. Features include a built-in speaker and the unit produces 250 cd/m² of output with a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.
The new monitor will start to ship in April, but deliveries may differ in different countries.

Seeing this announcement reminded me that, at one time, Philips was the expert company in continuing to supply old units at the tail end of markets. At that time, these segments can be quite profitable, when you aggregate the volume from a range of competitors that give up. However, I would be surprised if this was the case for the 17″. (BR)
