Aiptek has set up a Kickstarter project for the OrbitBeam, a projector designed for use with iPhones, from 6/6 plus and up (or Android above 4.2 using Miracast). It also has a battery case for the phone. The battery case connects to the projector using a single ‘Pogo pin’ and the use of a single pin means that the projector can be freely rotated.
The DLP projector has 854 x 480 resolution and 120 lumens of output with 1,500:1 contrast. Connectivity is via HDMI or wireless and there is embedded audio of 1W. The battery has a capacity of 3,000 mAh.
The unit is available to supporters at $279 compared to a retail price of $399 and the project needs $30,000 to go ahead. At the time of our visit, the total was $0, so whether the project will go ahead is not clear. If it does, delivery will be in July 2018.
