Casio Achieves First TCO Certifications for Lamp-Free Projection

Casio Projectors has been awarded the prestigious TCO 2.0 certification for five of its Laser & LED models, placing them as the most sustainable in their class. TCO is an international standard of sustainability across IT products and Casio is the first lamp-free projector manufacturer to have achieved this highest honour.

The awarding body, TCO Development, is a non-profit organization based in Sweden. Casio had to prove stringent sustainability criteria were met within all phases of the product life cycle, from socially-responsible manufacturing to safety, enhanced product lifetime and energy efficiency though Eco Mode during use. Even during recycling, elimination or reduction of hazardous substances such as mercury needed to be proved.

Taka Takeuchi, Senior Strategic Planning Manager for UK at Casio Electronics explains:

“We first pioneered solid-state projection to the UK market in 2010 and remain dedicated to bringing the benefits of lamp-free projection to more markets. We recognise our responsibility to reduce environmental impact by encouraging the shift away from mercury lamp-based projectors. Lower power consumption ultimately leads to reducing CO2 emissions. The new TCO Certifications are a fantastic step in an on-going journey to create a more environmentally-friendly product and enhance sustainability across the projection industry.”

Since 2010, Casio has used Laser & LED hybrid technology in all of its projector models, eliminating any use of lamps that contain mercury. This also allows for dramatically reduced heat output and power consumption, leading to power savings of up to 50%. The five Casioprojectors to have achieved the celebrated TCO 2.0 certification are the first lamp-free projectors to have achieved this.
