Sharp/NEC Announce Two New Laser Projectors

Sharp NEC Display Solutions and Sharp Imaging and Information Company have announced the launch of two new laser projectors, the NC603L and NC1503L, for digital cinema applications.

The NC1503L utilizes the latest red-blue-green (RB) laser phosphor technology that produces a speckle-free image at 14,000 lumens. The NC603L uses blue laser with phosphor technology to deliver the same high quality, speckle-free images for smaller screens at 6,000 lumens. Both models have 50,000 hours of expected lifetime and built-in chillers for flexible ceiling mounting without an external cooling system.

With less heat output than xenon lamp projectors, the manufacturers claim the new laser projectors can lower HVAC costs in the projection booth and theater. Their compact size also allows installation inside the theater, providing more options for new or retrofit installations. The sealed optical engine prevents dust and contaminants from affecting image quality over time.

The new models complete their companies’ digital cinema projector lineup while enabling flexible placement inside or outside the projection booth. The 2K DCI-compliant NC603L can display 14 foot-lamberts on screens up to 36 feet, while the NC1503L supports 55-foot screens at the same brightness.

Sharp NEC engineered the projectors for low noise, with sound levels of 39dB for the NC603L and 50dB for the higher lumen NC1503L.
