Taiwan’s Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA) has said that the value of global display module output reached about $82.6 billion last year. The figure was a 5% YoY increase, from just under $78.9 billion the year before.
PIDA believes that display module output value will rise another 5% in 2015, reaching $86.6 billion. The industry will see a CAGR of 4% between 2012 and 2016.
Trends in the industry this year will be:
- Gathering momentum for ITO replacement film products. LTPS and IGZO will become the mainstream panel technology;
- Touch solutions, such as on- and in-cell, will become more prevalent in sub-5″ smartphones;
- 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080 will be the main panel resolutions for small-to-medium panels, as well as large units;
- Wearable shipments will take off and smartphones, as well as tablets, will remain at affordable prices, further pushing adoption;
- Chinese panel makers will continue to increase production capacity and expansion, leading to noticeable changes in market shares.
